first_img1 Borussia Dortmund playmaker Ilkay Gundogan It seems Manchester United’s pursuit of German playmaker Ilkay Gundogan is over after Borussia Dortmund confirmed he had penned a new two-year deal with the Bundesliga club.Speculation has surrounded the 24-year-old’s future this summer following manager Jurgen Klopp’s exit at the end of the season, with United thought to be leading the race for the £22million-rated star.Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona were all thought at one point to be chasing, but Gundogan has instead snubbed interest from around Europe to commit to the German giants until 2017, with the midfielder already looking forward to next season.“I am glad that we finally have clarity and I can continue playing football for Borussia Dortmund,” Gundogan said on his new deal.“I can direct my focus from now on entirely on pre-season.”Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc added: “We are pleased that Ilkay will continue to play for Borussia Dortmund.“I am convinced that he will play his part in helping BVB reach its sporting goals.”last_img
